One of the most special things about becoming a mom is the urgency I feel to make the world a kinder place for my kids. I don't want them to inherit the failures of my generation; I don't want them to inherit our battles. I want them to live in a world that is more peaceful than the world we live in today.
I admit that I'm not very religious, but I've always been struck by the symbolism of a dove in the story of Noah's ark. Noah sends out the dove to see if the water has receded. The first time, the dove returns empty-handed. The second time, the dove returns with an olive branch: a powerful symbol of hope for the future. The world has healed and is now at peace, ready for a fresh start. And just as our children will spread their wings for their own fresh start one day, Noah sends the dove out a third time and goes off on its own; it doesn't return.
It's so cliché that I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but: kids are incredible. They are so kind, so loving, with such generous spirits that haven't learned hatred yet. My girls inspired me to create an ethereal design that represents their beautiful spirits. When I see them wearing a universal symbol of peace, love, and healing, I have so much hope for the future. Our world is going to be in good hands.
